The Rocket Engine is attached to the engine test bench and presses against a load cell that is recording the thrust during the test. A venturi pipe in the oxidizer pipings allows the calculation of the massflow of the nitrous oxide by a differential pressure measurement. The thrust chamber is equiped with a pressure sensor. With these measured values we can calculate and analyse almost all relevant characteristics of the engine. These results are the basics for further optimizations of the engine.

The nitrous oxide supply is controlled via two solenoid valves, that are normally closed, aslong as no voltage is applied. The valves are remotely controlled over a self developed software with a USB-control card in real time. The pressure sensors and the load cell are read out with 10 Hz. If the pressure in the supply or thrust chamber should rise unexpectedly, the software closes the valves automatic and the combustion extincts.

If the laptop should not react for inputs, there is the possibility to close the valveswith a emergency stop switch, which ensures maximum safety.
